Dwight Maxwell of New York City is a 1995 Hobart College graduate who received his Master's Degree from New York University in 1997. Author, Teacher, Poet and Activist, Dwight is writing for social change to bring awareness to inequalities and injustice in Britain and the world. His primary aim is to restore the cultural legacy of Black Africans by educating non-Blacks through his stories and critical works.

Born in Jamaica, Maxwell's writing is mainly autobiographical and is concerned with the struggles of African Caribbean peoples. His upcoming book, Throw Whey Buccra Khrebe Khrebe, focuses on the linguistic elements of the patois vernacular and its application during the abolitionist period as a language of resistance to slavery and colonial oppression.

Maxwell's latest book It's Not About Grades, It's About Culture is an appeal to Black parents and teachers to examine the current educational system that undermines the culture of students of African descent. He challenges the establishment to re-examine the role that culture plays in the classroom and at home.  Maxwell believes the purpose of culture is to cultivate exceptional human beings and it is vital for Black students' achievement and critical for adults to recognize, develop and pass on to their children to promote self-awareness and to create a conscious understanding of identity.
